I was brought up in Swanborough, a small farm nestling at the foot of the beautiful South Downs near Lewes in Sussex. A short walk from my house up onto the Downs provides spectacular far reaching views to the North Downs, over to Eastbourne and beyond, to Newhaven and the English Channel and West to Brighton and further.
Who could not be inspired by the wonderful landscape and seascape views which surround the area?
I have lived in Sussex pretty much all of my life with just a small 40 year gap when I was in London. For almost 30 years, I was the Marketing and Fundraising Director for a national military charity and busy with juggling work and family life.
My husband and I returned to the area in 2014 and I joined in with the lively art world to be found in Lewes and the surrounding areas. Fast forward to the 2020 lock down, I had time to concentrate on my art and launched into painting the views I love best – landscapes and seascapes – and my favourite animals; dogs and horses.
Painting completely captivated me during lockdown and I feel so privileged to be in this beautiful area and to have been able to dedicate some time to it. I am a complete amateur or, as I am told I should call myself, ‘an emerging artist’ and don’t pretend to be anything else. I dabble in different styles and techniques and I hope that I can produce something for everyone to enjoy whether it’s the art I create or commissioned work.
